Please do not forward chain letters, virus warnings, off-topic jokes, etc.
Do not bring your private email quarrels to the list.
Avoid the use of profanity except when reporting a factual use such as in a historical report.
Be gentle towards those who forget themselves. Send a private note to them with a copy to the moderator (gazissax@best.com). Do not flame others for their minor transgressions. Let the moderator deal with the major transgressors.

Do not treat discussions on the list as debates which must be won at all costs. Strive to examine the issues with others. This does not mean that political discussions are unwelcome or that you may not disagree. Even expressions of anger are acceptable as long as you are not malicious or defamatory or relentlessly accusing people of things they did not say or do. This policy mainly means when you choose to disagree not do so hatefully and be prepared to let matters drop to cool down when the moderator asks.
Remember that we are a mix of academics, enthusiasists, and interested laypersons. Please respect the dignity of all these styles here; speak from your experience and wisdom; and strive to write so that your words enrich others rather than merely show off what you know or what you have done.
Announcements of new or updated online information are welcome.
The moderator reserves the right to declare a cooling off period when discussion gets too hot. List members have twenty four hours to get in a last word. Members who continue posting in a cooled-off thread will be suspended from the list. Suspensions may be appealed after two weeks.
